EirGrid is building an electricity link called the East-West Interconnector between the electricity grids of Ireland and Britain. The Interconnector is a 500 MW regulated HVDC link which will be fully compliant with all EU legislation and provide an increased opportunity to market participants to trade electricity between the Single Electricity Market (SEM) on the island of Ireland and British Electricity Trading and Transmission Arrangements (BETTA) market in Great Britain. The East West Interconnector is scheduled to be operational in Q3 2012.
