East West Interconnector
EirGrid has developed the East-West Interconnector linking the electricity grids of Ireland and Britain. The Interconnector is a 500 MW regulated HVDC link. It is fully compliant with all EU legislation and provides an increased opportunity to market participants to trade electricity between the Single Electricity Market (SEM) on the island of Ireland and British Electricity Trading and Transmission Arrangements (BETTA) market in Great Britain. The East West Interconnector started commercial operation on 21st December 2012.
