Outage Plans

EirGrid develops and implements a Generation Outage Plan which is consistent with security of supply and requirements for the secure and economic operation of the system, and with the needs of generators in respect of plant maintenance requirements and resource limitations. For an explanation as to how the Generation Outage Plan is determined, please refer to the Annual Generator Outage Planning document.

Annual All-Island Generation Outage Plans are published on the Single Electricity Market Operator (SEMO) website and updated on a quarterly basis. The most up-to-date version of the All-Island Outage Plan is available from the Market Publications (Yearly Publications) section of the SEMO website.

Each month, a two-monthly All-Island Outage Plan is also published in the Market Publications (Monthly Publications) section of the SEMO website.

Outage Requests

Generators also carry out short, opportunistic maintenance outages known as Short-Term Maintenance Outages or STMO. These outages are not captured in the Annual Outage Plan and are typically carried out at low load periods - overnight or at the weekend. For an explanation as to how STMO are managed, please refere to the Short-Term Maintenance Outages (STMO) document.

Generators can use STMO Request Form to apply for an STMO (also available on the Operations Home Page).
