Generation Outage Plans
EirGrid develops and implements an annual Generation Outage Plan, for more information as to how this is determined, please refer to the Annual Generation Outage Planning document.
- Annual All-Island Generation Outage Plans (including EirGrid and SONI Generator Outages) are published on the Single Electricity Market Operator (SEMO) website in the General Publications section (category Maintenance and outages) and updated on a quarterly basis or as necessary. Each month, two-monthly All-Island Outage Plan is also published in the General Publications (category: Maintenance and Outages) section of the SEMO website.
Generation Outage Requests
Generators can submit Generator Outage requests to EirGrid using the Generator Outage request form. A Generator Outage request can be:
a) New Outage Requests
b) Outage Change Requests
c) New STMO* Requests
d) STMO Change Requests
*STMO (Short-Term Maintenance Outages) are short, opportunistic maintenance outages, typically carried out at low load periods - overnight or at the weekend.
Any Generator Outage not captured in the Generation Outage Plan (once published) for a given year is deemed to be one of the above and is managed using the Generator Outage requests Proceedure.
The forms that are used for Generator Outage requests are:
Form GEN01A - Generator Outage request
Form GEN01B - Major Generator Outage Cancellation
Form GEN01C - Submission of Annual Outage Plans
Harmonised Generation Outage Planning
Harmonised All-Island Generation Outage Planning is required to ensure that the Transmission System Operators (EirGrid in Ireland and SONI in Northern Ireland) can co-ordinate, optimise and approve outages of Generators (and other electrical energy providers, where applicable).
For more information on how this is achieved, please refer to the Harmonised All Island Generation Outage Planning document.
