Cavan-Tyrone
Cavan-Tyrone
Overview
EirGrid is planning two projects to facilitate cross-border sharing of electricity, promoting better competition and to ensure a future secure supply of electricity throughout the North East of Ireland:
- 80 kilometre long 400kV power line between Kingscourt (Co. Cavan) and Turleenan (Co. Tyrone)
- 58 kilometre long 400kV power line between Woodland (Co. Meath) and Kingscourt (Co. Cavan)
Following extensive studies, route corridor options for both projects were developed and were presented for public consultation. Public consultation commenced in October 2007 and is currently ongoing.
In April 2009 following a review of all project documentation, including consultants’ studies, reports, and consultation feedback, EirGrid has nominated one preferred route corridor for each 400kV power line project for further study. The preferred route corridors are:
- Route Corridor 3B for the Meath-Cavan Project
- Route Corridor A for the Cavan-Tyrone Project
